Lauren Lowe strives for Sydney

Springfield Healthcare challenged staff to walk/run/cycle the distance from our Garforth office to Sydney, Australia, which is a whopping total of 10,519 miles. Thank you to everybody that got involved, it was great to see how you were all keeping active during lockdown!

Lauren Lowe, HR Advisor at Seacroft Green, was one of our three lucky winners, who, along with her family, contributed over 400 miles to the challenge. Lauren said “I got my husband and my mum involved with the Springfield to Sydney challenge and it made us get out for a daily walk and achieve 10,000 steps on our fitbits. We set ourselves some weekly challenges and since we’re all really competitive, we surpassed all of our goals. My husband and I have been enjoying exploring the area around where we live, and recently travelling to new places for a day out, often involving a treat of an ice cream afterwards. It has also worked wonders for my mental health – even a 20 minute walk can help de-stress on an evening and I always feel calmer after these walks.”

This challenge was initially set as a way to keep up motivation and encourage staff to keep active over the past couple of months. Staying active is important for your mental health and a good walk can do wonders for your mental wellbeing. Recently, it has been specifically important for staff to ensure that they have focused on looking after their mental health, and we have been working closely with MIND Charity Leeds to promote positive mental health and wellbeing, and to provides help and support to those who need it. We also have a team of mental health first aiders who are always available for staff to talk too.
